About Us

Our Philosophy for Infant and Early Learning Child care Tampa

philosophySince 1977, Suncoast Academy has been providing stellar infant and child care in the Tampa Bay area. With 37 years in childcare and early learning, we pride ourselves in furthering the development of your child’s educational, mental and physical wellbeing. Within our caring and trusting environment, our tenured teachers and qualified staff will enrich your child’s early years with the utmost care and concern, creating a positive foundation to grow. Since we believe the first years in life are extremely important in influencing a child’s development, we have built our philosophy around understanding the individual needs of the child in order to provide fun, yet effective solutions to help a child acquire the confidence in handling people, situations and comprehending feelings.

The center provides the tools necessary to stimulate your child’s intellect. In order to reflect our high standards, we offer:
    • First-rate infant care
    • A warm and trusting environment
    • Extended hours of operation (6:30 am – 6 pm M-F)
    • An effective physical education program
    • Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) classes
    • A fully – trained staff in Infant/Child First Aid and CPR
    • Child Development Associate (CDA) accredited lead preschool teachers
    • A bilingual (Spanish-speaking) staff member
    • Nutritious lunches and snacks
    • Clean, bright, organized rooms filled with toys and learning equipment
    • Summer camp (additional fee required)
    • A dance program partnership with Bay Area School of Dance Arts

At Suncoast Academy, we strive to reach numerous objectives in order to provide a multifaceted program to enhance a child’s overall experience while in our care.

Our ultimate goals are to:
  • Provide a program where children develop intellectually, socially, physically and emotionally.
  • Present opportunities for children to gain independence, self-control, and respect for others.
  • Furnish an environment in which will enhance the self-esteem of all children through successful learning experiences.

Everything we do begins with what a child’s need to grow and develop in a safe, caring environment. What a child sees, smells, tastes, touches, and hears affects how he/she will feel and behave. Our welcoming, stimulating and organized setting will make a positive impact on your child for years to come. Drop by our center at any time and see what we have to offer firsthand!

Meet Our Team

suncoast4It takes a special kind of person to be part of the Suncoast Academy family.

We recognize the importance of the role of a teacher; his/her training, natural abilities and personality are crucial in setting the stage for learning. By the experiences that a teacher makes possible for children, and by his/her knowledge of child development and how children learn, he/she will be able to turn the classroom into a “mini lab” where children can discover themselves and the world around them. A teacher’s goal is to be an enthusiastic listener and create an inspirational environment where children can learn, grow and develop into exceptional adults.

We hire the most qualified and experienced child care professionals possible. Every staff member has had a thorough background check and has completed or is in the process of fulfilling the 40-hour child care training credential. Each lead teacher in every preschool classroom has a CDA credential and all staff members have received the Infant/Child First Aid and CPR training. Last but certainly not least, our amazing team LOVES children and teaching.

Allow us to introduce our nurturing team who help build a spectacular environment for your child every day.

Ms. Chris, Director

Thirty-five years ago, Chris began working as a part-time teacher at Suncoast Academy. She is now the owner of the center. Although she still spends plenty of time in the classroom teaching the pre-kindergarten class, she says the best part of her job is fostering a love of education in her students. Chris’ childcare certifications include: 40 Hour Child Care Training, Florida Child Care Professional, Child Care Director, as well as Infant/Child CPR and First Aid.

Take one look at her office and you will be able to tell that her favorite animal is the dolphin. That is because outside of Suncoast, her favorite place to be is the ocean. Chris is a certified dive master and loves spending time in the water whenever she can.

As a lifetime resident of Tampa, she is a Buccaneers fan (even through the rough spots). And because of her granddaughter’s love for softball, she is also a fan of Palma Ceia Little League Softball and Revolution Softball Travel Team. Chris spends most of her weekends watching her granddaughter, as well as several past students of Suncoast, play ball.

Favorite Quote: “It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.” ~ Albert Einstein
